3 US universities that are a great fit for Spanish students

If you’re interested in going to university in the US, it can be overwhelming to know where to start. The US is home to so many great universities and colleges, many of the Spanish students I work with find it hard to pick!

What’s more, while some of the Ivy League schools like Harvard and Yale might be household names, you may not even have heard of some of the universities that are a particularly good fit for Spanish students.

Here are three you should definitely consider:

American University, Washington D.C.

Its Washington D.C. campus location and international focus make American University a fantastic pick for any international student interested in world affairs. Spanish students will also benefit from its test-optional policy – students with sufficient academic grades for the Spanish Bachillerato are not required to complete SATs to apply to AU.  7% of the student body are from outside the US, from over 130 different countries. Undergraduate classes, taught by highly qualified professors, are also small, often with fewer than 20 students in the class, making for a more intimate experience. With a campus in Madrid, American University has close ties to Spain and could be a great fit for many Spanish undergraduates.

University of California, Irvine

If you’re dreaming of California, then UC Irvine might well be the right choice for you! The campus is in the heart of Orange County, five miles from the beach, and 50 miles from L.A. UCI boasts famous professors, ambitious academic programs, and excellent research. It is a fairly competitive school with a rigorous pace, as you would expect in the prestigious, world-famous University of California. 16% of the students are from overseas, and it would be a great option for Spanish students looking for an exceptional education in biology, engineering or business.

University of Notre Dame, Indiana

Notre Dame is a private, Catholic university with a strong Liberal Arts program and a focus on social justice. It has a remarkable university culture with a friendly welcoming vibe and a “family” feel. Students describe campus life as “extraordinary.” It has an excellent undergraduate business program, and the most popular majors are finance, economics, and  accountancy. Chicago is only 90 minutes away, and the Notre Dame Literary Festival attracts celebrated authors from across the US. Spanish Students who are looking for a welcoming environment founded on Catholic principles, an excellent, demanding academic program, caring professors, and strong sports traditions, should consider applying to Notre Dame.

To find out more about these universities, please join us at a Madrid information session for undergraduates next Tuesday, November 7th. You can listen to presentations from representatives of all three universities, find out more about the admissions process and scholarships, and ask any specific questions.
